Bio

Megan began working with animals in her teens and once graduated she became a veterinarian assistant and completed the Animal Welfare Program through the College of the Cariboo while working with the SPCA and walking dogs. Working at 3 different vet hospitals and taking the welfare program gave her an in-depth knowledge of animal anatomy behaviour and much more. She also started walking groups of dogs for people as a side job and adopted and fell in love with a Belgian Malinois cross rescue she named Kayla who was doomed for euthanasia for aggression towards dogs and reacting in fear of new people. 2 years later Kayla was helping teach fellow poochies new ways to communicate their feelings with things they weren’t comfortable with and to trust their people. Megan went on to complete an intensive dog-training program and became a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT), all the while volunteering with local SPCAs and working at an open concept combination kennel/training facility and reading and attending as many workshops with other trainers to give her confidence to start her own business learning and creating different methods for different dog behaviors to teach people how to train while also having some fun to better their relationship with their dogs. Megan moved to the Comox Valley and started up Poochies in 2004 and has since trained thousands of the Valley’s humans and dogs. She is also a member of the CAPPDT – Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers. Megan also trains and fosters dogs each year and helped place them in excellent loving homes. She along the way foster failed 4 other poochies and continues to have a full house of not only dogs but cats, horses, chickens and ducks. Her newest addition is a two legged baby who is already showing promising signs of being an animal enthusiast! Megan’s plan is to continue to help as many people and dogs for as long as she can and be around them every day while running her daycare, boarding training operation in Royston.
