Leashing Optional Parks

  • Goose Spit (May 1 until Feb 28)
  • Seal Bay (July 1 until March 30 except east side of Bates Rd and Swamp loop trail)
  • All other parks (such as Nymph Falls, Tsolum Spirit, Eagles Dr., Oyster River)
  • Signage at parks will indicate if leashing is mandatory.

Leashing Mandatory Parks

  • Glover Royston Trail
  • Goose Spit (March 1 until April 30 due to brant geese migration)
  • Lazo Wildlife
  • Seal Bay (April, May and June: ALL TRAILS due to nesting and fawn season)
  • Seal Bay (YEAR ROUND: east side - water side - of Bates Rd, and Swamp Loop Trail on west side)
  • Masters, Oyster Bay
The following are the rules for "Leashing Optional" parks as set by the Regional District of Comox Strathcona
  • dogs must be leashed within 30m (100') of a park entrance
  • dogs may not wander further than 5m (16') of park trails
  • dogs must be within 10m (30') of their walker
  • dogs must have a collar with a valid license
  • dogs must respond quickly to calls
  • walker must carry a leash for each dog, and at least one bag to remove droppings
  • walkers must ensure dogs do not disturb, harass or attack people, wildlife, livestock or other pets

* Enforcement is by regular SPCA patrols, Comox Valley Security and parks staff.

Free Saturday Classes:
Keep up with your training at our free monthly class, open to all Poochies graduates. This class is held the first Saturday of each month at 10 am. Watch your email for location, or call us for more information. If you are a graduate and are not receiving email notification for the Saturday classes please let us know.
