After obedience
training, people often ask us what else they can do with their
dogs. Agility is a sport where dog and handler must work together
to complete an obstacle course made up of jumps, weave poles,
teeter-totters, elevated ramps called dog walks, tunnels and more.
You can work towards a goal of competing in trials or you can
just participate for fun - either way, both you and your dog will
love it.
Agility is
a fantastic way to strengthen the bond between you and your dog.
Due to the nature of the sport, you will learn to read and understand
your dog in more depth and your dog will learn to focus on you.
After predominantly working on obedience and tricks, agility was
a refreshing change for our dogs, Kayla and Peppy. It gave us
a new challenges that were fun and different from the norm.
You will find
that having a foundation of obedience training will help you progress
faster in agility. You will have better control of your dog in
a high-distraction environment, you will understand and be able
to read your dog better, and your dog will have learned to focus
on you.
Organized
classes are the best way to get started. Traci and Glen of T.A.G.
Team agility have been competing in agility for years and have
a wealth of knowledge and experience. They run classes weekly
- for more information, contact Traci @ 897-0246.
